Discover Corfu and the local area by boat

San Stefano is the ideal base from which to explore this beautiful North east coast of Corfu with its many bays and welcoming tavernas.

Hire a Boat

A fantastic way to explore the Corfu coastline is by boat. There are several boat rental companies based in San Stefano and all offer a variety of boats to choose from. Click on the logos above for more information. You can also  find their details on our useful links page.

You do not need a license to rent a boat with an outboard engine up to 30 horsepower and all the boats come with a cool box, life jackets and a local map to help you plot your voyage.

Most tavernas have their own jetty and a helpful boat boy will appear to offer a helping hand with your mooring.

This coastline is littered with tiny bays and beaches, some only accessible by boat, all with crystal clear waters, ideal for swimming and snorkelling.

Erimitis

An area of outstanding natural beauty with several secluded bays and beautiful clear blue waters to the north of San Stefano bay.

Kerasia

Heading south out of San Stefano bay, Kerasia is the first large bay you will find. Kerasia beach is a long stretch of shingle and pebble, with sun loungers and parasols available for hire, this is a favourite spot with the locals. The taverna has a boat jetty and specialises in fresh fish. The mixed seafood platter is an absolute must try.

Avlaki Beach

A large horseshoe bay situated between the Erimitis Headland and Kassiopi with a long pebble and shingle beach, two tavernas and a sailing school. There is always a light breeze on this beach in the afternoon, perfect for when the temperature really soars.

Kouloura

A beautiful circular harbour, with a taverna up on the hill and a small beach, surrounded by eucalyptus trees. Kouloura is probably the prettiest and most photographed bay on the island.

Agni Bay

Boasting three tavernas and a small pebble beach, Agni Bay is a popular place for the large superyachts to anchor during the summer months. Agni Taverna was made famous for the notorious meeting between George Osbourne and Peter Mandelson in the Summer of 2008, whilst Mr Osbourne was a guest at the Rothschild Estate and Mr Mandelson a guest onboard the 73m yacht, Queen “K”. The tavernas at Agni are the perfect place to people watch, over a long lunch, of course. The sun loungers on the beach are free to use by customers of the tavernas.

Kalami

Kalami beach is a popular spot with several tavernas and shops. The “White House Taverna” on the left as you enter the bay is famous as the former home of Lawrence Durrell and his wife Nancy and where he wrote parts of his novel “Prosperos Cell”.

On the right-hand side of the bay you will find Sakis Water Sports. Established in 1986, the fluent English-speaking instructors offer water skiing and wake-boarding lessons for all levels of ability including complete beginners. You can also take a ride around the bay on one of their many inflatables, towed behind a 300hp speed boat. Their details can be found on our “useful links” page.

Prospero's Cell Chapel
Prospero’s Cell Chapel

Just around the corner from Agni Bay heading south down the coastline you will come across a small chapel perched on the rocks at the entrance to a secluded deep-water bay. This chapel featured in the ITV series “The Durrells” and also Lawrence Durrell’s book Prospero’s Cell. This is an ideal spot for swimming and snorkelling.

Kassiopi

The largest town in the North East of Corfu with a bustling harbour, shops and tavernas. You can moor up in the harbour and explore the old castle, fortified walls and gate house. Alternatively, you can have a drink or some lunch at one of the many tavernas overlooking the harbour and take in the local shops.

Boat trips to Albania are available from Kassiopi – ask for details at the harbour.
